Sree Narayana College Kannur was established in the year 1960 with the vision “Enlightenment Through Education: Strengthen through Organisation.” The college functions based on this motto propounded by the great visionary spiritual and social reformer, Sree Narayana Guru. The institution is currently in its sixty fifth glorious year of functioning. In its long, six and a half decades’ existence, the college has rendered yeoman service to three generations of people of North Malabar in general and Kannurites in particular. For a large number of students from poor and backward communities, Sree Narayana College, Kannur has been a solace and boon in supporting their educational needs for over six decades. The college has thirteen UG departments, seven PG departments and four research centers. A few of its departments have had postgraduate level courses and research facilities even in the seventies, when higher level academics was in its infancy in Kerala. From PUC to Pre-degree to semesterisation of degree courses to four year degree programmes, the college has undergone and successfully withstood changes and the test of times. Recognising that holistic education is the mantra for shaping the individuality and personality of the youth, the college gives equal importance to academics, sports, cultural activities and all other possible extra-curricular activities. The college has given birth to illustrious writers, academics, scientists, engineers, medicos, journalists, teachers, singers, political and film personalities It has always been a haven for sportsmen to nurture their talent, hone their skills and get entrenched in the hall of fame of Kerala’s football, cricket, hockey, wrestling, body building, athletics and various other sport. SN has been at the pinnacle of success, becoming overall champions in fine arts competitions, even when it was under University of Calicut. It is a campus at which the National Cadet Corps started its march in the very year of the birth of the college. Over three decades of continuous participation in the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi is unique in the history of NCC in Kerala. Besides, the college has given to the nation, hundreds of defence personnels, both high ranking officers as well as valiant soldiers. In modern times, we have twice attained NAAC ‘A’ grade and this academic year we have been for the first time listed in NIRF ranking below three hundred. At a time when Kerala’s higher education, especially the traditional arts and science courses, is witnessing a serious crisis, Kannur SN has weathered the storm. The relentless march of the college to greater heights of glory will continue in the years to come.

The existing tricolour flag was introduced in 1954. The three colours in the flag depict the three services of the Corps, red for the Army, deep blue for the Navy and light blue for the Air Force. The letters NCC and the NCC crest in gold in the middle of the flag encircled by a wreath of lotus, give the flag a colourful look and a distinct identity.
